Basic Media and Communication Design (1) (2)

Credits: 7

Type: Required Course

Introduction: As new technologies dramatically alter communication practices, there is a growing sense that traditional practices alone may not be enough for emerging designers to participate professionally in an international arena and therefore require a broad sense of visual literacy.  However in order to ‘apply’ and take advantage of new technologies one must have a deep understanding and respect for the ‘past’ and its traditions which serve as a foundation on which to present the ‘future’.

The focus of the second year Media+Visual Communication course is to ground students in the fundamentals of conventional time-honoured design, designers and techniques.  When students ‘understand’ their predecessors, they can proceed to create work which truly reflects the multi-disciplinary nature of contemporary media and visual communication.
